7.30pm THURSDAY 17 MAY 2018
DAVID’S BOOKSHOP, 14 EASTCHEAP, LETCHWORTH GARDEN CITY, HERTS SG6 3DE
Poetry ID has been fortunate to book the poet, playwright and critic JOHN GREENING to read and talk about some of his poems at a public event in May, ahead of the Letchworth Festival.
John Greening first came to prominence when he won 1st prize in the 1981 Alexandria International Poetry Festival; his first collection, Westerners, was published the following year. Since then he has published fifteen further collections of poetry, including To the War Poets (2013). His memoir of two years spent in Egypt, Threading a Dream – A poet on the Nile was published in 2017.
Glyn Pursglove, reviewing John’s collection Hunts: Poems 1979-2009 in Acumen called him ‘a significant presence in contemporary English poetry…serious (but never excessively solemn)’ praising his craftsmanship, his keen historical imagination, and his receptivity to the implications of place.
John Greening’s poems are accessible, vividly written and thought-provoking, and his reading will be of great interest to poetry lovers whatever their background.
Tickets are £3.00 in advance, available from David’s Bookshop or from John Gohorry (email@example.com). Cheques should be made payable to David’s Bookshop. Book your seat now to avoid disappointment.
